Powerful repairing tool for disk partitions

TestDisk is probably very different from any other application you may have tried to recover lost data… mainly because it has no graphical interface.

TestDisk has been developed to help you recover lost partitions and make non-booting disks bootable again. Like I said before, it doesn't have a nicely designed window; all the tools and functions in the program are managed in a DOS window via command-line controls.

With TestDisk you can fix partition tables and recover deleted partitions, rebuild the boot sector, recover deleted files from FAT, NTFS and ext2 file systems and other disk-related recovery tasks.

While TestDisk is certainly a powerful tool, it's suitable only for users with a certain degree of computer knowledge. If you're sure of what you're doing, you'd better stay away from this one: disk partitions and boot sectors are serious stuff!

TestDisk is a powerful tool to recover lost partitions, fix partition tables and rebuild the boot sector, though it requires a bit of computer expertise to use.

Changes

fidentify, a little utility sharing PhotoRec signature database, is now build by default. It identifies the type of data contained in a file and reports the extension as seen by PhotoRec. It is similar to the Unix file command.

  • Pros

    • Recovers lost partitions
    • Rebuilds boot sectors

Outstanding low level disk program. In addition, easy to use.

Brilliant! Works amazingly well!. This Terminal-based utility may seem a little off-putting for some, but the instructions are very straightforward and it does a fantastic job...free!It managed to retrieve not only the photos from my formatted CF card, but also even a load from a long time ago! A very capable utility.Well worth a donation and could well still be cheaper than buying a GUI-driven program.

Works well!. Windows XP wasn't booting up. The drive was unreadable in another computer. Disk management claimed the drive was not formatted! It was a 3 year old Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 750GB. However TestDisk was able to rescue "My Documents" and most other folders excluding "Windows" & "Program Files". I'm just delighted with TestDisk!

Excellent Tool for fixing any MBR. This is a tool that you (hopefully) will rarely need. But you should have it handy or at least know about it!I was stymied when my XP hard drive lost the MBR as the old PC died, and I could not boot it on newhardware. I had no XP repair CDs, but I had the new Windows 7 system that came with the new PC.ONLY - Windows 7 would not run my old BOOT fixing utilities I had. But TESTDISK ran and worked well. Pros: Many Pros, but this site won't allow more than about two lines.. SO I'll just say USE IT! Cons: It does NOT show you the actual MBR before or after. Doesn't save either before or after. But other tools exist, so it's a weak 'con'. Needs more documentation

In Softonic we scan all the files hosted on our platform to assess and avoid any potential harm for your device. Our team performs checks each time a new file is uploaded and periodically reviews files to confirm or update their status. This comprehensive process allows us to set a status for any downloadable file as follows:

Clean

It’s extremely likely that this software program is clean.

What does this mean?

We have scanned the file and URLs associated with this software program in more than 50 of the world's leading antivirus services; no possible threat has been detected.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.

We’d like to highlight that from time to time, we may miss a potentially malicious software program. To continue promising you a malware-free catalog of programs and apps, our team has integrated a Report Software feature in every catalog page that loops your feedback back to us.

Flag any particular issues you may encounter and Softonic will address those concerns as soon as possible.
